Food As Gift.

Image: Art House AmericaI'm honored that my essay "Food As Gift" has been included on the Art House America blog today!  I hope you'll meander over and check it out...

While you're there, don't miss the lovely essays "In High Cotton" by Kierstin Casella and "Believing The Seeds of Wonderland" by Alice Smith, two creative and inspiring friends and fellow mamas from Nashville.

"Somehow, my little family’s efforts combined with that of so many others is a gift to the community, a voice shouting over the din of this big city that knowing where your food comes from does matter..." read more

Good Friday walk with Daddy.

On Good Friday, we spent some time with our lovely friend Kyle and enjoyed the perfect spring weather by having dinner at the new Gloria's Restaurant in our neighborhood. While we waited for a table on the patio, Kyle sipped a mango margarita, and we admired a huge, sloppy Great Dane who was sipping water out of a glass!

Afterwards, we had an evening stroll around the Bishop Arts District and snapped these photos that make me happy beyond words.  I am so thankful for my little family...

Easter reflecting.

"I watch this morning

for the light that the darkness has not overcome.

I watch for the fire that was in the beginning

and that burns still in the brilliance of the rising sun.

I watch for the glow of life that gleams in the growing earth

and glistens in sea and sky.

I watch for your light, O God,

in the eyes of every living creature

and in the ever-living flame of my own soul.

If the grace of seeing were mine this day

I would glimpse you in all that lives.

Grant me the grace of seeing this day.

Grant me the grace of seeing."

~ from Celtic Benediction by J. Philip Newell

I used to love Christmas best, but as I experience Christ more deeply in my life and fall more in love with Him, as I see evidence everyday of how He cares so intimately about me and others around me, I realize that Easter is the center of it all.  We celebrate Christmas for months in anticipation but Easter seems to come and go in a flash.  Without Christ's death and Resurrection, His birth does not really have meaning.  Without the Resurrection, there is no hope or redemption for this world.

I so look forward to tomorrow morning, having a small brunch and gathering in our living room where we will read Scriptures and I will sing praises to the God who has saved my life, who has not spared me from struggle and heartbreak but who has loved me fiercely in the midst of it, who always provides peace when I ask for it, who has given me more gifts than I can imagine or deserve.  This is the God I worship and love.  This is the God I celebrate.

YUM! What's on your Easter menu?

Dallas blooms in technicolor.

Spring here means Dallas Blooms at the Arboretum.  When we visited recently, my first comment as we walked in the front entrance was, "I feel like I've just stepped into an impressionist painting."

It was a glorious spring day, and Luci Belle and I got to enjoy the beauty with my mom, my two nieces Ashley and Maddie, my nephew Zachary, and our friend Terrica {who got us all in for free with her season pass - suhweet!}.

My daughter was tossed around like a doll between her cousins.  Zachary kept kicking his shoes at people and was being so rambuncious that we practically forced him rolling down the hill above the lake to blow off some energy.  Soon enough, all the older kids were hungry, so I offered them the only snack I had in the diaper bag - carob spirulina energy nuggets.  I told them they were "chocolate bites" - mwahaha.  But they were not fooled.  They each stuffed one in their mouth and then promptly spit them out all over the perfectly-manicured grass so it looked like there were brown turds scattered all around us.  Nice.

All carob turds aside, though, it turned out to be a lovely day.  An exhausting one, too!

What's on my Kindle?

This is by far my favorite Kindle screensaver. Shocker.

My Kindle was a generous birthday gift from Steven's parents.  Before I had one, I never thought I'd appreciate a digital book reader.  After all, I have pledged to read the printed word, and nothing can replace the smell, the feel, the comfort of a well-loved book's pages in my hands.  However, as a nursing mom, I have to admit that holding the skinny Kindle in one hand and cradling my baby in the other has proven quite handy!  It's easy to navigate the pages with one finger.  There are tons of free books you can download.  And I've been able to read so many more books this way.

So, what's on my Kindle right now?  In true Christine style, my Kindle books are organized in neat little categories.

I'd love to know what you're reading...printed or digitally!

Studio Mela on Etsy.

I have to introduce you to one of my favorite shops of delightful handmade items on Etsy, Studio Mela.  This woman speaks my language in a major way.  You might remember her "It Is Going to Be OK" print that I have hanging above the changing table in Luci Belle's nursery.  It's right across the room from the nursing chair, and I must look at it ten times a day and smile at the reminder.

Studio Mela is having a spring sale right now, and you'd best take advantage of it!  I'm pretty sure I need this print...

"The Sweet Life" by Studio Mela
